  • Hello and guidance to thread

Good day everyone - I have joined today to seek some guidance over an issue that has come about. Its pretty simple (I guess) in that I purchased a house via a solicitor. The house is leasehold (with a £4k buy out) so that the grounds maintenance can be done at a cost to me of £200 per year. The issue I have is that when we completed, and i had paid my advance maintenance to the company the solicitor had not checked to see if the previous owner had paid their fees up to the moving in date. As a result I keep getting letters addressed to the previous occupier demanding payment. I have called them to explain however they say the debt is attached to the property and the solicitor should have ensured this was paid before completion. I have contacted my solicitor a number of times by email and telephone to seek some support / guidance however they are ignoring me.
I have asked for a copy of their complaints procedure, but again they have ignored me. I have asked the Ombudsmen for some advice and they have said wait 8 weeks before going back to them. My question then is do the maintenance company have a claim against me for the outstanding fees?Â* Am i taking the right approach thus far and would you recommend me paying the fine then seeking that back via way of complaints?Â*

    Thank you very muchÂ*
