Caught shoplifting in Matalan

Hi all,

I've read a few of these threads but still can't shake the anxiety. I got caught shoplifting three items in Matalan today - stupid I know but like most on here, I'm broke and have a birthday coming up. I was caught on the way out of the store and fessed up immediately. The manager took my details, name and address and gave me a letter from RLP saying I will receive a letter about a fine and she will be reporting it to the police but wouldn't be calling them right then. I exaplined my situation and she said I should go to CAB to discuss my financial situation.

My question is, what happens next, will I get a visit from police, what will these letters say and what do I do? Im worried about my work and personal life and worried I could lose my job.

Suffice to say I will never shoplift again in my life!

So having read the rest of the posts on here about RLP then you should know to ignore. If the police werent called at the time then it's highly unlikely that they would be interested now.

Did they really call it a fine? RLP have no authority to issue fines.

They didn’t call it a fine. She said they will contact RLP and I’ll receive a letter and the police will be notified. But they didn’t call them while I was there. I guess I just have to wait and see.

Just in case the police do invite you in for a "chat" (unlikely but just in case) insist that the duty solicitor attends the meeting with you.

Oh god, I feel physically sick. I just want to know either way if anything is going to happen. The items amounted to less than £30 by the way. I’m driving myself crazy
