  • Jc&A solicitors and Vertill recovery

Hi, I'm Paul and new here. I'm having really bad problems with a firm called Vertill legal costs recovery ow have taken over JC&A solicitors claims after the later went bust. I had a dispute with a bill of costs issued by JC&A solicitors early 2018 after not receiving anymore corespondence from JC&A solicitors I found out they have gone into administration as Vertill have taken over this bill. After seeking legal advice and being told to not pay this bill I've received notice that if it's not paid in 14 days the will issue cost proceedings against me. Any help would be appreciated
    Paul

        Mike,
Yeah that is the Company, trying to the get the 'Bill' settled.
I have told them that JCA were incorrect and I was fighting this before . Vertill could not care less to what i had to say and just kept trying to threaten me with legal action.
JCA kept offering a 25% discount on the amount that lasted for 2 weeks. once that time ran out they extended this 'Once in a life time' offer for 2 more weeks, this happened about 3/4 times. The Vertill come out of no where and use the same tactic.

Hi can anyone help as I received a letter today saying I owe them money from an appointment I didn't take my son to. I have no idea what they are going on about. I rang the company the man was very rude and unhelpful. Please can someone advise me on what they did or what I should do? Thanks in advance.

I also received correspondence from Vertill. During claim with a Solicitor I didn’t attend a medical appointment and was billed for the work they carried out! I did recall the initial claim but at the time I had a lot going on in my life. After taking advice I did settle with Vertill out of Court*

I too have received correspondence from Vertill re my claim with JCA. However, my injuries were not severe and after some time I cancelled the claim. This was back in 2014 and have never received any further correspondence or calls. I can see that i am not the only one receiving this type of correspondence. What are others doing? I am a single mother and cannot afford to pay this furthermore, it is causing me anxiety, i haven't slept since i've received it.

Hi Reenee I have had no contact from Vertill since last November when the rather rude lady I spoke to on the phone from them told me if I didn't pay they would take me to court, I took legal advice which advised me to not pay them and if they got in touch with me not to respond as this sounded like a litigation case on my side, I received a letter from them a couple of weeks ago from Vertill offering me a reduced bill, I'm guessing this is because of the covid 19 crisis, I will be seeking legal advice again on the matter. Hope this helps

I have had a similar letter and demand for payment in the last week from Vertill.
They are claiming that I broke the CFA with JCA when I cancelled my PI claim back in 2015, when they advised me that they would not win the case and recommend I dropped the claim.
In all the paperwork Vertill sent me was a copy of the CFA, which I have have not seen before. It has my name and address on it and that is about it. It has not been signed and dated by JCA or myself and there is a scanned signature on the final page that has been electronically inserted in a box which is supposed to be mine but no date. The box next to it should be signed and dated by JCA but it isn't...The note at the top of the page states "We are not bound to Acton a conditional fee basis until both you and we have signed the agreement"
Can anyone tell me if this CFA is actually valid. Could Vertill have originated this CFA not JCA? I have not contacted Vertill since receiving their communication last week!
Any advice please would be very appreciated -Thank you

I’ve had the same situation. I didn’t attend a medical appointment and the CFA wasn’t signed by JC&A solicitors (this means it’s defective). I contacted Carr&Co as their local to me and paid £100 to send them the details and have them give me advice. They did this in the form of an email which was really helpful as it helped me draft a reply to Vertill which was relevant to my specific case. I had another reply but stood my ground and told them that if it went to court I would be happy to defend my case as the bill was inaccurate. The best thing to do is speak to citizens advice first as well and then maybe a solicitor. If you can’t afford the solicitor fee (you need one who has dealt with PI claims before) then you can dispute this with Vertill via email, tell them that the bill is unfair and unreasonable as they’ve likely charged you the same for a senior solicitor and a paralegal. After 8 weeks or when they give you their final answer on your case you can take this to SRA (send forms and a £45 cheque) or the legal ombudsman (unsure of these fees) and they will impartially make a decision on this case.

                              hope this helps!
