  • RLP Letter demanding money

I stupid stole a £4 moisturiser from superdrug two weeks ago, and I was caught after leaving the store. I was marched back into the store with the security guard and taken into the back room where my photo was taken and my license was photographed. They got the item back so nothing was actually stolen. I had also paid for 10 pounds worth of items I just stupidly liked the packaging on this moisturiser *♀️ I dont know what came into my head. However he got into my face intimidated me, & as he wasnt English and I am partially deaf I had to have another member of staff accompany us as I couldnt understand him. I admitted to the crime and was holding my hands up to my actions. I was told I'll get a fine and a ban from stores for 12 months not even just that store but EVERY store in my city. Which I am now petrified of even going to get my groceries.
I recieved a letter demanding 100 pound from rlp for a 4 pound item which they got back I hadnt opened it or damaged it.. now I'm worrying do I pay this or can I ignore it? As I literally struggle every month I just dont want to ignore it and the fine get bigger and bigger. Also can I really not go into any stores? Id never go back into that particular store again but surely every other store couldnt ban me too could they?

I dont know if I should just get a loan and pay it or do I ignore it

You ignore it, search this on the forum for other entries about RLP. It's not a fine, only courts etc can issue fines not some private business. They are trying to claim for a loss that didn't happen

They cannot ban you from other shops. Again no authority

Could they peruse this further to court? As I tried to pay for the item about 10 times I was happy to go pay the security guard even said he saw me before I left the store but because i left the store that i had lost the right to pay? What i dont get is why if he saw me why didnt he tell me to pay for it why wait till i leave to then stop me and make it worse!!!

just dont want to it be my luck that I'll be the one person that gets taken to court for a 4 pound item that was handed back.

        Relax
They will not take you to court.
They will threaten it, but haven't tried it since being soundly put down by a judge some years ago.
Ignore them and all subsequent letters

Okay thankyou I will ignore any future letters. Just dont want to end up with 100s pounds worth of debt over a 4 pound item. They make you feel so intimidated and frightened.

I never ignore my debts or bills but 100 pound for something they got back within 60 seconds seems to drastic! Considering I tried to pay for it after too to avoid further hassle.
