  • Parking fine in Scotland

I received a parking fine from a hotel in Scotland saying I was illegally parked which I wasn’t. I had put my car reg in their machine but it had failed to register. This was in July . Since then after numerous calls to the hotel who are saying it is nothing to do with them as it has been passed on and they can’t stop it I have also received 3 threatening letters from a debt collection agency calledZZPS. I have emailed the hotel and ZZPS but they are not interested and just want the fine which has gone up to £160 paid. As I was having a meal at the hotel I was there legally.
I am 72 years old and this was my first outing out after having breast cancer and I was in the middle of radiotherapy so was only out for a short while. I am finding this most threatening and distressing and don’t think I should have to pay a fine at all. I would like some advice please.

Do they know who the driver was? If not then just ignore.

if they know the driver then into the hotel and complain to the manager
