  • Classic dangling carrot - VERBAL EMPLOYMENT CONTRACT

    HI everyone.

Recently undertook a short term assignment from agency where agency said minimum of 4 weeks work. Everything was discussed over the phone and signed contract later that day (generic 'employment buisness' contract). THIS DOES NOT PROVIDE DETAILS OF WORKING HOURS OR ASSIGNMENT DURATION.
Turned up for work and discussed with client assignment duration which he said was only 1 week or 4 to 5 days.
After this I said explained to the client that I will not be available to work as I have another assignment (with a different agency) and I had left.

I Have heard this happen to other people but it was the first time it had happened to me. For some reason I knew that the agency recruiter was lying about the duration of the assignment and she even said that she would never lie about a contract. They do this just to get people to the job and hope they will stay and put up with being lied to.

Really it's no big thing because I just left and worked for a different company. But what got me is the bare faced lies she was willing to tell just to land a poxy job of 4 or 5 days.

My question is as she had told me ' 4weeks minimum ' does that constitute an agreement by which she is bound? Or will the generic contract take effect?
My phone records all phone calls and she clearly states the assignment duration.

    Anyway thanks for looking.
