  • Banned from asda for accidentally not paying for 1 item out of a trolley full

Hi, I have been banned from my local asda for accidentally not paying for one item that was hanging on the trolley. I had paid for £180 worth of shopping but forgot the nappies hanging on the back. I was stopped by the security guard and asked for my receipt which I provided and I offered to pay for the nappies as it was a mistake. The security guard said that it was too late he had been watching me and I did it intentionally, I mean why would I pay for £180 of shopping and not £11 for nappies ? He said i have a year ban from the store and took my name and address on just a bit of paper. I am so embarrassed.
it was a genuine mistake and I was mortified but does this mean I am banned from every asda? I would be too embarrassed to go back to my local store now anyway after that but I didn't sign anything and my picture wasnt taken or anything like that. If I went to another local asda from now on will they refuse to let me in?

Did you, in the end, pay for the nappies?
Did you provide any form of identification?

If you want to continue shopping in Asda, do so.
Yes, you will be trespassing if the ban was for all their stores, but it is unlikely that anyone will notice.
Just give your local store a miss for a while.
If you are caught trespassing all they can do is ask you to leave, unless you are caught shoplifting in which case the charge could be burglary!

You are likely to receive an invitation from a firm called DWF to pay them shed loads of money for imagined losses.
This can be ignored and after a few letters they will give up.

IMO you have been treated appallingly and I would be complaining to their CEO

Just showed him my name on my bank card, he wouldn't let me pay for the nappies which I needed but I walked out with the rest of my shopping. I have emailed the CEO but no reply as yet. He didnt say all stores just my local one. I'm worried if I go to another asda they will throw me out and I will have further embarrassment

They didn't take your photo so the chances of being identified in a different Asda store are very remote

Thank you very much. Still no reply from the CEO and I emailed him 30 minutes after it all happened
