Hi, newbie here looking for some help/advice please....
So appx 2 years ago I applied to open a new bank account (new customer) with Clydesdale Bank. My new account was opened successfully and I received my details and visa debit card etc. I went to deposit some cash in the branch the next day and was told my account was closed and they kept my visa debit card. Not being to “clued up” about this I accepted their response begrudgingly and went about my business.
Last September I again applied for a new customer account with Nationwide building society and the result was an almost carbon copy of my previous experience with Clydesdale Bank. This time I decided to “look into it” and although Nationwide were very cagey and secretive, they advised me to check my credit file for CIFAS markers. I did this and my credit file clearly states that there is nothing recorded under the CIFAS heading. Nationwide did not want to know.
Several weeks ago I attempted to open a new account with Bank of Scotland (where I have been an active customer of theirs since 1989) and once again account was opened then closed 2 days later. I was referred to their fraud department who advised that they didn’t have to give me a reason for closing the account and just that “some negative information had come to light” and once again referred me to check my credit files and contact CIFAS.
I now have printed proof of my credit file saying there are no CIFAS markers, AND I have a letter directly from CIFAS (after making a DSAR) confirming that I have no markers and they hold no negative information about me.
Yesterday I opened a new account with Bank of Scotland and they sent me a welcome email with my details and advising me to make a credit/deposit to my new account. I deposited £50 via bank transfer from my other BOS account. Today my new account is closed and customer services have told me my application has been refused and I will need to phone tomorrow and speak to their fraud department for more information! I’m not sure I’ll get my £50 back either?
What exactly is it they (the banks) are seeing? What is going on?
None of the banks are at all helpful or forthcoming with any sort of information! Where do I go from here???
