  • Speeding 60mph in 30mph zone

    Hello

I needed some advice on court summons that i have received for a speeding offence i committed 4 months ago. I received "single justice procedure notice" which i filled in a "Guilty Plea" along with details of my income and outgoings.

Month later i received a letter from the courts informing me that i had to attend court for full court hearing and could face 6 points on my license or possible disqualifications for between 7-56days.

I have held a clean licence for just over 13.5years and never had points on itit and have never been convicted or been in trouble with the police .

I work as sky engineer and need my license for work and getting disqualified would mean i would lose my job. Can you give any advice as what i should do and what could possibly happen as i have never been in situation like this before

The single justice JP has determined either that there was something written on the form that may form a defence/mitigation or that they feel a bench may consider disqualification and they want it heard on that basis.

It's relatively uncommon to get a ban where points may suffice on a clean licence (I think I've only had to do it once or twice in the last year) but 60 in 30 is well over the limit and in to the area where a short ban may be given. You would need to provide sufficient mitigation to persuade the bench that points and not a ban should be given - also expect a Band C fine.

If a potential ban could cost you your job then it would be worth speaking to a local solicitor.
