  • Coast Finance and Welcome Finance contacted me via mail with very limited information

    HI

Yesterday i received a letter from Coast Finance Solutions addressed to my full name at my current address but with no account number or reference simply stating ' Our attempts to contact you have been unsuccessful, please call us '

Obviously I wanted to check what was happening so I called them and they said they couldn't discuss anything with me unless I passed a security check, I asked what details they required other than what they had and only offered them my DOB. The chap on the phone eventually let slip it was a welcome finance account but couldn't discuss anything more without an account number. He said it was linked to an address I haven't been at since at least 2013 ( MY parents home, now sold) I asked what I could do and he told me to call money advice, I said I had no idea what they were claiming I couldn't possibly discuss anything as I haven't got an account number or any paperwork at all

As far as I am aware I had a foolish loan that I cleared some years ago for 1000 or 1500. I have a full credit report showing nothing as outstanding or any defaults or CCJ's, upon further reading I see Welcome Finance sold off loans and went bust? I am worried something has gone wrong and need to clear it, any advice would be excellent as I couldn't resolve anything over the phone and obviously a letter out of the blue is always concerning! Shall I send a letter to their head office and go for Statute barred route as its been so long or simply attempt them to show me what they claim they have about me?

    Many thanks for reading

In my personal experience over the years I NEVER respond to these sorts of things by phone call. Always keep it formal with a letter, or in your case email.

A formal DSAR letter under the new GDPR rules should be your first step.
