  • My friend got caught stealing in Primark. What happens now?

Hi I’m speaking on behalf of my friend.
she stole today from Primark in Whiterose, West Yorkshire.

I bought a pair pair of socks and some slippers and she came with me to the counter as we were leaving we noticed a lot of people staring but we took no notice as we walked out the store the security guard came and took her away to a room.
she explained that they told her to empty her bag and write her details down. Her name Birthday and address. She’s 16. She confirmed that that is her correct name, birthday and address. They then told her that some how she is banned from the Leeds Trinity’s Primark store aswell as Whiterose. Also she explained that she will pay for it there n then but they claimed she will get a letter through the post of her fine.

By this she she is wondering if all this is true and we have a lot of friends who have done the same but by the sounds of it her experience with shoplifting is different and they didn’t receive a letter nor fine, can u please help?

There can be no fine as there has been no court. They will try and claim for their losses but there has not been a loss as the goods were recovered and the security people were doing the job they would have been paid for anyway.

Ignore any letters demanding repayment of their non existent loss.

If she ignores the letters they send would she be sent to court or anything? She’s really worrying about it and feels as though if she doesn’t pay the fine she will be arrested etc
