  • Lowell Solicitors letter of claim

    Hi everyone,

Harry here, new to the forums. Like many others I have been contacted by Lowell financial regarding a supposed debt from 2014. The debt is for an outstanding payment on an EDF energy account for a shared house I was living in at the time. Unfortunately I was the only name on the EDF account so Lowell have decided to pursue me alone, however, as far as I am aware, the account was payed off. I sent Lowell a letter (attached) stating I had no knowledge of the debt and happily carried on with my life. Fast forward several months and they have now passed the account to Lowell solicitors who have sent me a letter of claim, which states I have 30 days to respond before legal action.

It seems, although I feel this debt is incorrect (and have informed Lowell of this in writing) they will issue a CCC unless I pay up. Is there any way to effectively dispute this or prevent the issue of a CCC? Unfortunately I don't think I have any proof that I paid the debt as it was so long ago. In response to my letter informing Lowell I had no knowledge of the debt, they have sent me a pdf copy of an old electricity bill from the period showing the amount outstanding. Does this really constitute proof of debt?!

Any advice will be much appreciated!

    Harry.
