Hi..
I wonder if if I can get any advice,
basically i I have been paying back council tax I owe through Equita and had a direct debit set up I cancelled this in April due to financial difficulties. The balance was left at £307
On Monday 17th June I received a text message to say I have a court order I need to pay if it isn’t paid by the end of the day the bailiffS will attend my property and remove goods.
I called the number and he explained it is now £540 with the extra charges added as it’s been passed to enforcement with panic I have to get the money together off relatives and pay before 4pm
On Wednesday 19th June I received a letter from Equita with a notice to say that I have to pay the full amount of £307 or enforcement will have to get involved and I will get extra costs. This notice was given on the 14th June stated on the letter!
On their websites it states from the notice you have a minimum of 7 days to pay or contact them.. I did not get that chance as I received the notice AFTER the bailiff had texted
do I have a leg to stand on and maybe claim the difference I had to pay from my original debt??
any advice would be hugely appreciated
many thanks
