  • Southern water debt

hi im new here but I would like some advice with regards a debt for water from southern water.
I received a letter from country court business centre in Northampton stating I must pay debt with interest and costs total of £690.31 pence and I would like some advice please.
I no longer live at the address for debt and im confused as to how they got my new address, I think my old landlord gave out my new address as there the same landlord as before.
I was not aware I had a bill outstanding as I had mail redirected for six months after I moved and company had my phone number and email address.
I had asked them to come out previously to check water meter as my bills had been high since I moved in and after some time they came out and did the standard check but they did not wait a hour to do the test again, I had no help from then after that and I was not aware that they could deduct money off bill for year due to leakage but before I moved I noticed that there was a problem with toilet cistern leaking but I moved house so I assume new tenant would of got landlord to repair toilet as at some stage.
Southern water would of seem over the two years plus I was there that I had big bills, it was a eco energy flat I lived in, two bed but I lived there on my own, and why was the bills high compared to next door neighbour who lived in a one bed on there own. They never questioned the bills which I think is not good customer service. I am in receipt of ESA support group and they would be aware as I told them I receive benefits.

Shall I ring them and ask them to send me all my previous bills and try and come to some arrangement with them as I think my bills were high due to toilet cistern leaking, they should offer me leakage discount for each year and set up a payment plan through the benefits office, they only allowed to take is it, three or four pound per week from your benefits if your on benefits
    Any advice would be grear

also can I ask if its legal but I noticed on previous three bills I have that southern water have charged me three times on one bill for standing charge

    Water supply standing charge £12.16
    Sewerage standing charge £12.33
    Surface water drainage £11.21
    Highway drainage £5.84
From 23 January to 18 July

Can they legally charge you three times which seems a joke

    Any advice please

The standing charges are for different items, Supply, Sewerage, Surface water and Highway drainage.

Did you take water meter reading when you vacated the property?
