An elderly and vulnerable friend of mine has fallen victim to a scammer. Shewas rung up out ofthe blue by someone pretending they were from a Government department and telling her that there was a scheme for pensioners to double their savings of £10000. Basically invest the money and the governement will match it. So she transferred £4000 into their account. She was then told that as she hadn't transferred enough she still owed them and could bearrested for starting the scheme and not investing enough. They then got her to buy either Stem gift cards or iTunes cards and get them transferred. We realised what was going on when she started hassling for help in selling her disabilty scooter. They have also made threats of violence to her and to myself.
We have reported this to the police and to action fraud and have the crime number and the Action Fraud Reference number . The scammer rang while the police were there, and the officer spoke to the scammer . Despite this He rang my friend 20 plus times on the sunday and fifteen times on Monday.
I was wondering if the was any chance of getting the money that was transferred to the scammer back from the bank. Obviously the other money is gone but is it worth making a complaint? to her bank about the transfer. It was way outside her usual small spend.
Any Help greatly appreciated.
