  • trouble with my current employers / school

I have been made redunant from my current post and things have been turbulent. I have had a job offer and they have requested a reference form my line manager/teacher has I do not want to go through school for a reference as the head master has threatened to ruin my reputation. I am now being told by the teacher providing a reference for me that the school are demanding a copy of the reference that she is writing for me can they even do this with the new GDPR? Is this legal ?
I do not wish for my current school to have a copy of the referrence that is being provided for my new employers as i am concerned he will contact the new school and try to create problems for me as they are upset over me getting my redundancy money.

It should be the head master that should be worried - not YOU!
Your offer is based on “SATISFACTORY reference” without doubt you have worked “ SATISFACTORILY “ otherwise you would have been sacked and not made redundant!
If new school withdrawals their offer - they will have to answer a lot of questions!

Both the schools are stepping on thin ice if you do not get this job.

Also, if the reference your colleague is written on school headed paper , then the school must have a copy. Alternatively maybe you can ask your colleague to provide a personal / professional reference instead?
