  • Company Vans

I am new to this forum and would like to say hello to everyone.
I would be grateful for any advice or information with regards to my issue. I work for a big engineering company an am employed as a mobile fitter. I drive a company van which is a lease vehicle. The 4 year lease is now up and instead of the company ordering me a new van, which I have been looking forward to, they have said they would give me used vehicle instead. A used one from their fleet. I was told that they can't order me a new van especially when there old unused ones lying about on site. I have been working on this contract for 15 years and have Tupe transferred three times in that period. The two previous companies I worked for would order you a new vehicle when a vehicle lease was up. This company I am with now does not. They recycle instead. Am I entitled to refuse this vehicle and if so, on what basis?
I am really upset about this as I was looking forward to a new model van. Instead I will be given dirty used one. ( I have seen what they look like) It is unfair because a collegue of mine who does a similar job to me was allowed to order a brand new van following his vehicle lease expiring. There appears to be some favouritism going on as well. Where do I stand in all of this. Should I just put up and shut up, or how can I challenge this?

I presume that your contract just states that you are provided with a company van to carry our your role. Unless there is anything specific in your contract or any company van policy that may be in place which states that you are entitled to receive a brand new lease vehicle on expiry of the current lease then unfortunately there is nothing that you can do.
