In summary I have been working for an international development organisation since 1st September 2013 on several contracts initially 5 days. The last being a 3-year 4 days a week contract ending 31st August 2019. I am 65 in May. In a 1:1 meeting in February my line manager and I discussed my contract at my request. He said he wanted to keep me on board for my wealth of experience after the end of my contract in some capacity I.e. consultancy or a 2-3 days contract which I was open to. He wanted me to train a younger staff member into my role.
The subsequent meeting on 4th March I was informed that they wished to extend my current contract for 4 months to train the mid twenties staff member into my role and then end my contract on 31st December. I did not query this at the time because I was in shock.
My question is can they do this legally? I feel I’m being put out to grass and unfairly replaced by someone younger.
