How to find a Scottish solicitor with knowledge in English law also?

Hello,

I expect to soon appoint my own solicitor. I am English living in Scotland, I have my late Fathers English estate and my Sister who resides in England to consider. I hope to build a long relationship with which ever solicitor I appoint, if a knowledge in English law is not important at the moment (which I believe it could be) it likely will be in future. I hope not to need to source another solicitor again.

Can anyone help me to understand how I learn about a Solicitors qualifications for both countries please?

I am wary if I call up and ask I may find a bad egg who will is not entirely honest with me and I'm not educated enough in this field to know otherwise.

You can always ask the solicitor of your choice if he is also qualified in English law and regulated by SRA to enable him to practice in England

There is a Qualified Lawyers Transfer Scheme to enable non uk qualified lawyers to work in England.
There is also an Intra UK scheme to allow English Qualified solicitors to qualify as a solicitor in Scotland

Not sure I'm much more help I'm afraid. It may be worth considering a law firm that has both Scotland based branches and England based branches. Then even if the Scottish branch does not have lawyers specialising in England/Wales law they have the option to put you in touch with a colleague within the firm who does?

Maybe Borders based firms would have more likelihood of having dual qualified lawyers? It will be a case of shopping about I would think. Sorry I can't be more helpful.
