  • Lowells letter

    Hi

This is my first time posting and I'm after some advice. My partner received a letter from Lowells some time Oct/November 18 time saying he owed 200+ for BG gas bill in 2012/13. He believes he does not owe this as he paid up to date then moved out as far as he can remember. Unfortunately he has no proof of when he last paid and the date he moved out. He requested proof and they sent the gas bills with last date he paid in March 2013. He has since received a letter reducing his payment amount. Just wondering what is the best course of action to take.

Thanks in advance of any assistance.

    Good morning,

IF your partner believes he paid the debt , then he is entitled to ask for proof of the debt. Id suggest that he makes a Data Protection Act 2018 request to BG to obtain all data they hold on him including payment records etc. That should show him enough data to be able to work out if there is a liability or not

Thank you for your quick response much appreciated. I will ask him to contact BG and request all data off them. I think the problem is getting proof of when he moved out as he can't remember the exact date as it was so long ago, and proving he gave them a final reading at the time.

The DPA request should get you all of this, i believe there is a template on the forum you could use, it should get you all that you need to show whether you are right or wrong on this point
