  • False insurance claim against me

    Hi,

I left a company within the last few months in which i had a company van, I was allowed to use this as a personal vehicle which helped as i didn't own a car at the time so had no personal insurance policy.
When i handed my notice in i asked my general manager for a letter from the insurance company they used as a reference for other insurance companies because i had no no claims bonus. i was told by the manager that i had a claim against me for crashing a van and writing it off. long story short i never crashed a van, the van broke down and blew up due to poor maintenance ( not my usual van i used), because the van was a lease vehicle and who i worked for were supposed to maintain the vehicles but they weren't, they made a false claim and got away with it but now I'm stuck with a claim against me.

assuming this is illegal, is there anything i can do?

    Thanks

    Hi and welcome.

If you know the company your ex employers were insured by, I would suggest writing to them and asking for full details they hold about you.
Were you driving the van when the incident occur?
Did you not have to complete a report about the incident?

I assume you didn't actually make the claim as presumably your ex employer was the insured, and they had blanket coverage for their employees.
However they named you as the driver when they made the fraudulent claim, so the records (which insurers share) will show you with an accident record and it will be in your interest to get that removed.
Your ex employers might now find themselves with a problem!
