  • Santander strange call

Back in august we recieved a questionnaire asking us about the use of our joint bank account.

we sent it off and heard nothing back.

recently we received another letter asking who certain people were

one of which was my daughter. one was my son in law.

i emailed Santander to complain that these letters were only asking for my partner and not me even though I’m a joint owner.

and he’s in hospital but they’d previously gone through security with him where he gave them permission to speak to me.

they literally just rang me, asking for the information they did apologise for hounding him so much.

i did give them the info they asked.

and she said that was all and it was over.

4 minutes later she called me to say “ I forgot to say on the previous call all calls are recorded and we are regulated blah blah blah they can be used for various reasons”

i foubd it very strange that they’d call back to say that, I feel like they were trying to make me aware they’d recorded it for a reason. My daughter helps me out with my banking and they’ve never seemed to like it. They said the original questionnaire was standard but that seemed weird too.

It does sound a bit odd. Santander would normally be up on the calls may be recorded kind of stuff before they start the call. Have you checked directly with Santander that it is they who are contacting you? Is there any reason they've given for why they are asking so many questions about your family ? Do your Daughter and Son in law have your permission ( registered with Santander ) to discuss your account with them ?

Have you got a copy of the letter they sent initially ?

You could request copies of data held on you by Santander which may help shed some light on what's going on ( and possibly obtain call recordings and see what they are actually being used for ) -Subject Access Request Letter
