  • Hi, new her

In a moment of madness, I was caught shoplifting and was given a 'notice of intended civil recovery.
I was told to phone RLP first thing today to pay a fine so that no further action will be taken against me ,other that this fine and a 24 month ban from their store.
    Can you help?

Yes, completely ignore this attempt to wheedle money out of you, it is NOT a fine.

    Which store was this?

Search for RLP in this forum to find out more info and the series of letters they send you using copious amounts of red ink and threatening the end of the world if you don't comply with their demands.

      Thank you for your reply.
It was TKMAX ,Luckily I found this site before I phoned them, the value of the 3 items was 40.00 , and they were handed back, no police were called , I offered to pay for the things but they said that this was not the way it worked.
The notice says that if i don't pay when i get the fine that they will take me to court.
Why did they ask me to phone first thing today? will they check to see if i phoned?

They asked you to phone to see if they had scared you enough to pay.

Fines can only be issued by courts and authorised public bodies. RLP are not that. The last time they tried to take someone to court for shoplifting (the Oxford case) they lost in a big way and basically got spanked hard by the judge.

Here's the current collection of RLP scary letters

You can have a look at the comments about the Oxford case here. It also has a link to the court transcripts
