Hi, I am treasurer for a charity and the charity have been left a bequest. The estate was divided solely between various charities. There are 3 named executors, one being a solicitor. That firm of solicitors for whom that executor works were appointed to administer the estate. After 4 years (an interim pyt had been received earlier) a final settlement of the bequest was paid to all the named charities. The solicitors have now contacted me 9& all the other charities involved to say that an accountants bill hadn't been paid so they want some money back so that this bill can be paid. Is there a legal requirement to repay this money? The solicitors have made the error by not checking that all outstanding bills had been paid. If any of the beneficiary charities refuse to pay their proportion of the overpayment, would the executors be responsible to make up any shortfall on the outstanding bill?
