  • Repayment of housing benefits

I’ve been paying overpayments for almost 2 years and now just received a letter from council saying they will contact employer to get direct as have looked at my wages on shared information from dwp and deciding I can pay more!
then say if I don’t want this to happen pay another slightly lower sum and they won’t be contacted!
is this a fair letter as seems like blackmail to me with menacing as this is not a new claim and I have been paying back?
no letter asking for revising and it’s not even financial year
Any advice would be good I have sent letters but just get same response council has to recoup as fast as possible using legal means, but not sure it really is?
