  • Built on council land

I have inherited a single car garage . It is on land with other garages and parking spaces.
it was bought about 5 years ago from a solicitor who also did all the legal work also .
Several months later the buyer got a letter from the council asking why he had built a garage on their land with a map attached. He sent this to the selling solicitor to deal with. Heard nothing for several years until another letter from the council. I never read that letter. He sent it to the same solicitor.

I have now inherited this garage which I would like to sell but that does not look to be possible.

What i know . Garages built more than 20 years ago. Have been verbally told by other owners that someone from council came and looked many years ago and did nothing .
Only a small amount of the land is owned by the council. About 2/3 of the garage I now “own “

    Should I
    a do nothing
b approach solicitor who sold the garage. They have all paperwork relating to the garage.
C approach the council and see what they want done .
I am leaning towards c . In the hope they will sell me the land for a reasonable price as I can not see what use it could be to them.
    Thank you for any opinions
