  • Dwf Asda

    Hi guys,

I am ashamed to say that I was caught shoplifting at an asda. This was my first time and I was in a bad place when I done it. After being stopped I signed a form saying I was banned from all asda stores and I paid for the items £21 then left after being told by security and on duty manager that the police would not be called and once I left then that was the end of it. I received a letter 1 week later from dwf telling me to pay £125 in security costs How do I proceed? and what are the laws regarding this in Scotland

You proceed in Scotland the same way as the rest of the UK and ignore it.
You will undoubtedly get more letters demanding payment, and threatening court action against you, but Asda will not actually go that far.
For starters they would need to justify the amount claimed, then the costs they incur (non recoverable) would out weigh any award they received if successful in court.
And finally the last time a civil recovery firm advised their client to try court they lost heavily.
Just carry on and find another shop to use for the time being.
