I have an agreement with Carnegie Consumer in amount of 7145 since 19.09.2016 for a plumbing course at Train4Jobs.
I never attended this course due to health problems of my wife, so I had to work for both of us to maintain and keep her safe. I have paid monthly 165 since 19.09.2016. How can I cancel this contract or some advice to stop the payment. I paid nearly half for nothing. Thank you

Did you cancel the contract at any point after signing up for the course?

Have you undertaken any of the course, logged in to the online course system etc ?

Do you work in the plumbing industry? Was it a city & guilds course ?

You've paid almost 4k. So far as I am aware you only have 3 years in which to complete the course.

Does the loan show on your credit file?

They will want the full payment, and they won't allow you to cancel despite never having taken the course. You can stop paying and risk them putting the debt on the credit file as a default and potentially court action, although I haven't see them take anyone to court as yet.

After signing up did they send you all the relevant study documents, log in details etc ( ie if they never did anything for you to actually be able to start the course there could be an out there )

There's not a lot of plumbing stuff on the C&G site https://www.cityandguilds.com/qualif...ab=information but have a look through and see what their course is compared to what you were sold by train4jobs.

Were you told about the 6/8 weeks practical training on site required?

Do you still have any documents/emails etc from them ?

Did you know you were signing up to a loan and do you have a copy of the credit agreement?

Yes they sent me an manual, 4 cds I still have the agreement contract and all the papers, I never touched them since 2016. And yes they said about 6/8 weeks practical time on their site. I never attended any of the online, face to face or practical days. After I signed the contract I have noticed I cannot cancel it. No one told me about that. I know my mistake and I would not bother to pay but after my wife got ill I was struggling with the payments.... even that I have payed. Thank you

Hi, I have the same case with Carnegie Consumer Finance sold by Train4jobs. My husband choose a Welder course, but I signed the agreement.

I will answer the questions that you ask to Adrian Fatu.

                1) Were you told about the 6/8 weeks practical training on site required?

Yes. My husband had to finish some modules to be able to do the practices, but when he finished them they increased the number of modules required. So he could not take any kind of training.

2)Do you still have any documents/emails etc from them ?

Yes. I have stopped with the payments and I have received a letter remember it.

Did you know you were signing up to a loan and do you have a copy of the credit agreement?

No.I do not knew about the loan, and I have the copy.

I hope you can help me with this information and I really grateful in advance.

                Thanks a lot

                    Hey everyone.

There is no point of explaining , as my situation is exactly the same as yours.
Just a main questions -Has anyone actually got to resolving this situation?

                    Thx

Hi, I also have done with with the electrical course. Got as far as almost attending the practical sessions and still owe 2 years worth of 165 a month. I spoke to an electrical contractor and he said the course isnt accurate to what you would do in college. Ive also checked with ClearScore and it doesnt show on my file so does that mean I can stop paying it? Ive had a few debt letters from them before from when I was out of work threatening to send a debt collector to my house if I didnt call them and arrange repayment.

All this is really worring me I've not long signed up for the course and already made 3 payments and the only reason why I've looked at the reviews is because I don't like paying by standing order as you have not payment protection, I know is as I've been scammed before and was told this that how I know, but also reading the things you have all said as made me worry mine is a plumbing course what should I do?

I am in the same situation. I signed up last year to a Welding course after having a guy from New Trades Careers come to my house. I fell ill soon after and expresed my concerens to the chap who signed me up. He told me to wait a few months before quiting the course to see if things got better. I waited a few months and was still sure i wanted to quit the course and then found out i couldnt as it was too late. I now owe nearly £8000 to Carnegie as i cancelled the direct debit last year when i was struggling.

Is their anything i can do to avoid paying this? I dont understand why the college wont just credit Carnegie the money back in these occasions.. Even if there was a steep admin charge it would be better than the current situation.

I am going through the same type of mis selling scam with Carnegie consumer finance. A sales person pressured and mid led me into a finance contract that was not explained to me in order to pay for a electrical course.

The sales person told me so much lies and what type of service I would be getting and never explained or left me the opportunity to cancel the course.

I did not know I was borrowing money to pay for my course. I thought I was simple agreeing to pay 180 direct debit every month from my own money and setting up a direct debit.

The course is just a scam because the lady told me I would be getting loads of assistance and practical training after a month every other weekend. She blinded me about the course when her prime goal was to tie me up into a finance loan.

The course is not what they say and after 3 to 6 months depending on your desire you will quickly realise that you are paying 7800 to teach yourself and that without regular practical or vocal and practical learning with physical resources you can not really fulfill your goal of learning this course.

They will not contact you to help you and they do not provide the type of assistance that a person who has never studied electricity before.

After module 2 you will not be able to fully understand what you are learning without going to someone you actually know that does electrical work.

Carnegie and ntc will claim to be separate independent companies but the sales lady came and tied me into these contracts which clearly means she was representing Carnegie consumer finance so she had a responsibility to go through the contracts clearly and explain every little detail

You need to make a formal complaint to the training company about the quality of the course and it being mis-sold and you need to make a complaint to Carnegie About the same (They are liable to refund the course under section 75 of the CC a) but also mention that you were misled into signing the loan agreement. Then you can take the complaint about the finance to the financial ombudsman.

Did they do any affordability checks with you?
And did the lady visit you twice? Wants to sell you the course and the second time to get you to sign the finance agreement?
Did she leave you with a copy of the credit agreement?
