Just over a month ago me and my friend were caught stealing from primark, we stupidly slipped a few items into our bags and when we walked out the store 2 police officers were waiting for us and told us to follow them and the security guard back up into their office.

The police searched our bags, gave us a warning and took our details (to which I gave my boyfriends address) and as far as I know dealt with the matter. Before we got let go the security guard gave us a letter saying we may expect a fine from the RPL, which we did.

I receieved a letter stating eating that I am to pay £191.50 and after reading a handful of posts and replies on the matter I chose to ignore the letter as I know the likelihood of primark taking me to court is unlikely and I live in Scotland so debt collecters (as far as I’m aware) only occur in England.

My my friend has send them an email asking to pay this in instalments and explained how we are both 17 and do not have the money to pay this. They have told her that the debt of £191.50 is to be paid between us making it £95 each.

However this email to my friend was over 2 weeks ago and I have just received another letter stating that I am still to pay the £191 and I know this is just an attempt to scam more money out of me.

i am fully aware that shoplifting is not acceptable and after this will never attempt it again, the letter I received today threatens that if I do not respond within 21 days then my parents may be contacted. Can they find my parents address since I gave them my boyfriends? I highky doubt it but I am just wanting to double check as I’d rather pay it than my mum finding out and paying for me, although I don’t have an intention of paying if this is not the case.
