  • Charge repaid but Caution remains

    Hi everyone
I have been struggling with my elderly and very ill mother's affairs as her Attorney and would appreciate a few words of advice.

I have been trying to sell her empty house for a year now but am stuck. Back in the early 1980s my parents divorced and a legal aid charge of £680 was put on the property. My mother paod this off in full in 2011 and I have written proof of this. However, there is a Caution on the property - which has, incidentally, never been registered with Land Registry and my father owned it since 1955.

I am at an impasse with the conveyancer as Legal Aid will not return their emails or phone calls and I rang them only to be told to email proof of my status - which I did - and never heard back. I rang today and the call was disconnected. I rang again and they did not answer.

Would someone please advise as it has been 5 months now and our buyer is going to withdraw.

    Kind regards
