Excess Mileage

Hi,

i would like some advice on excess mileage please, I VT my VW Golf last month with having paid over 50% of cost of car, mileage on purchase of car was 41000 on agreement on giving car back it was 51247 VW now want £1250 in excess mileage from me, car was retired in good condition. Can they enforce it?
