Just to say my heart goes out to all those affected by the Manchester bombings and also to plead that the resolve and restraint of the stoic British people shines through as always. I do not know what sort of scumbag thinks slaughtering children at a pop concert will aid their cause. The rose-tinted glasses of retrospect do turn many terrorists of the past into heroes and freedom fighters but those who carry out sickening actions such as this will always be reviled and remembered as failures and monsters.
There will be a lot of blame flying about and could have/should have arguments but let us remember that we have the best security forces in the world. Every single day we are protected and can go about our business while in the background men and women risk their own lives to foil attacks and remove threats. The arrests and successes do not hit the headlines but they are a frequent occurrence. We are protected without heavy handed restriction or curb on our civil liberties.
The perpetrators of these horror crimes do not represent the majority of any religious group or race and all communities are affected and we grieve together.

An optimist is someone who falls off the Empire State Building, and after 50 floors says, 'So far so good'!

    Re: Manchester

You are so right here we MUST not blame the wider group if this is the work of someone professing to be part of this group race or religion.
Our thoughts are with those families affected by this

My thoughts, too, go out to everyone who is caught up in the mess that is happening ... there's too much bloodshed, too much violence and too much sorrow in the world as it is

        Re: Manchester

I blame the muslim taxi drivers for ferrying around FREE of charge people who escaped that act of terrorism.

I blame the muslim paramedics who helped those dying and injured and ran into a scene out of hell.

And finally, I blame the muslim doctors who fought to save the lives of everyone who was still clinging to life when they got to the hospital.

That's who we should ALL blame for helping to save the lives of people caused by a terrorist who's religious beliefs are totally irrelevant to the act that was perpetrated. The murder of innocent people.

I think its important that people dont blame the muslim community for the acts of this one w@nker, if one looks back at history, the IRA didnt represent all of Ireland, Brevik didnt represent the Christian community, and this tossbag didnt represent muslims either.

                      Re: Manchester

The New York Times has published a statement defending it's decision to publish the leaked photos of the bomb parts & debris.

Curiously the NYT couldn't quite find space in the statement to address the real issue which was of course the compromising of a very large and extremely serious criminal investigation by publishing evidence of it, tipping off the terrorists as to what information the police held and so potentially endangering the lives of UK citizens. This embargo practice is something all UK media understand and abide by.

They did however somehow find the space and nerve to mention how brave their reporters are.

                      Not impressed.

The images and information presented were neither graphic nor disrespectful of victims, and consistent with the common line of reporting on weapons used in horrific crimes, as The Times and other media outlets have done following terrorist acts around the world, from Boston to Paris to Baghdad, and many places in between.

Our mission is to cover news and inform our readers. We have strict guidelines on how and in what ways we cover sensitive stories. Our coverage of Monday’s horrific attack has been both comprehensive and responsible.

We cover stories about terrorism from all angles. Not only stories about victims but also how terrorist groups work, their sources of funding, how they recruit. Acts of terrorism have tremendous impact on how we live, on how we are governed and how we interact as people, communities and nations. At times the process of reporting this coverage comes at personal risk to our reporters. We do it because it is core to our mission.
