  • Landlord been conned by a agent

    Hi
Please can someone point me in the right direction. I am a landlord who employed an (turns out unscrupeless)Agent to let out the house. He said he didn't take deposits because they were too much hassle but he took a "admin" fee of £350 from the prospects tenants. Six months later I sacked the agent for witholding my tenants rent! 3 Years later Tenants got a council house and asked for their deposit back...I didn't ever get one, I informed her.
So she went to "get your deposit back" (horrible horrible man)company. Who tried to get £1400 from me, ( the rent x3) it did scare the hell out of me, but I decided to fight it and day in court tenant said had proof the admin was a deposit, as he had sent her an email stating it was indeed a deposit 3 years after she gave it to him & after I sacked him!! . However he also owed me £600 because he had witheld the rent also 3 yrs earlier .
I won my case against her but the judge said I should persue getting the money back from the agent. So my question is there a body that fights for landlords and as I have proof & all the bank statements(used in court that day)is there any advice anyone can give me.
    Huge thanks

    KKKKK

There are regulators, but with this sort of thing, it's often suitable for a lawyer to work on a fixed-fee basis. For instance, if it were me, the fee would be around £360 + VAT, plus court fee. Try phoning local firms and asking for a fixed-fee.
