  • Insurance good practice

We often hear about horror stories concerning insurance companies.
    This is the opposite.
Whilst working on my car I lost my signet ring (I know, shouldn't have been wearing it)
Turned the garage and my tools upside down, but no sign of it.
Phoned Insurance co. last Tuesday to report loss.
Spoke to their jewellery specialists, and directed them to the manufacturers who still make this design.
On Wednesday received letter from insurers confirming payment would be in my bank account within two days, and it was by lunchtime Friday.
And this was done without the item being listed on the jewellery valuations (less than £1000) and without any proof whatever that I had ever had the ring.
That's how proper insurance companies work.... it's all uberrima fides

And I'm not naming insurers or jewellers as I'm not advertising

I spilt a coffee on my macbook, one fairly brief phone call, wasn't even sure if it was covered, £899 claim settled one clear day later - I really wasn't expecting that.

I have to commend Rias for motor/contents insurance UK call centre answers calls by the 3 rd ring the person one speaks to initially sees the matter through to conclusion.

      Rates are great too.

Funny that, I'm contemplating court proceedings against Ageas (Rias) for supplying goods of unsatisfactory quality following a claim!

Been with Rias for a few years, Fully comp. motor insurance (all the extras) has had reducing premiums every year.

Freezer replaced with one of greater value and top brand.

Actually my beef with them was not the handling of the claim, but the fact their agents damaged my classic car replacing the ignition switch/steering lock, and then the switch failed 6 months later causing the destruction of the starter motor. They deny all liability, but don't realise they're dealing with a Beagle!

                Yep.
My contract was with insurers, who appointed locksmiths as their agents, who in turn damaged vehicle and supplied goods not of quality required.
They (the insurers) were in breach of Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982 which implies work will be carried out with reasonable care and skill, and goods supplied of reasonable quality and durability.
