Farewell to page 3.
I am female, consider myself intelligent, have fought sexism in the workplace and like a man to remember the colour of my eyes rather than the colour of my top but I will tell you one thing; Even if I could roll back the years I would never be brave enough to pose topless but I am honest enough to wish I had the sort of boobs that could be displayed on page three. I like to tell people I made page 3 of the Sun. They glance down and then I add ‘it was quoting an article I wrote’ (actually misquoting but there you go).
The models were well paid (paid more than the male copywriters) and knew what they were doing and it brightened up many a chaps morning. Was it really doing any harm? I certainly feel confident enough to believe it was not demeaning. As for saying it was an archaic feature –I thought admiring the opposite sex or mild titillation (pun definitely intended in true ‘carry on style) :grin:was timeless.
