  • My House

As many of you know I recently brought a new house. It is pretty much falling down and is in desperate need of a serious make over.

So I thought I would give it an 'enviromental' face lift as well, i must admit this is more about saving money in the long run rather tahn saving the planet.

So I have spent today looking into all the zillions of things I can have done, if anyone knows anything about the gizmo's or has them or knows some one who has them, please please please give me your input.

I need a new roof/ central heating / boiler /so i thought I would go for the solar power!

So you have your regular solar panels which heat your hot water- they have been around for awhile sound fine to me, but they are big and not overly attractive

There are also solar panels called Solar PV (
Photovoltaic) now these panels dont require direct sunlight, they just need sunlight. They sound pretty nifty but I have never heard of them untill today, they provide electricity. Now the draw here is the teeny tiny electric bill and the fact theat they come in tile size bits grey red black to match your roof!

I am also considering combining one of the above options with a ground source heating, my garden is big enough, even if its not they could do a bore hole and I've always wanted underfloor heating. (hot toes mmmmm)

I know I can get a grants of about £7k for this as one of my neighbours did but I really want to know what people thaink about all this. Will it really work or am I wasting money??

The heating sounds good, you'd have to weigh up the outlay against the savings to see if its worth it.

Draughtproofing is a must- you'll save loads on heating bills that way.

And I know its obvious, but use energy saving lightbulbs as well. They aren't just ugly horrible shaped ones any more, there's all sorts off different ones. Asda do their own brand-really cheap. And they're on BOGOF at Tesco.
