Re: Bird flu in china -bbc news

I have had a 'packaged' account with LTSB for years and it includes world wide travel insurance. I thought I would try and see if I could get a cheaper alternative recently and was asked by an insurance company to give details as to why and when I had seen my GP in the last 5 years!!! Well I may be getting old (er) but I can barely remember what I had for dinner last night never mind why and if I had seen my doc 5 years ago. A complete joke!!!!

Insurance companies are just after making profit out of us NOTHING else....

Ruby- A typical example in obtaining insurance and forgetting possibly to disclose everything or one particular thing. In this thread of poor Nic who did not declare he once had pins and Needle - maybe he forgot, maybe it was just a one off but he forget. He then dies a few years later a relatively young man of something quite unrelated and the family are not being paid out by the insurers. I believe it is with the FOS as we talk...... a very sad story http://www.legalbeagles.info/forums/...illness-policy

On that thread there are some new legislations especially for the consumers to understand what we should declare etc...... I bet they have not crossed every T and dotted every i, time will tell.

It would take ages (on an 0845 number at times) to go through as to why and when I had seen my GP for the passed 5 years. Thankfully I am in sound health generally but have had the odd things niggling at times , as most of us do. Most of us also don't have memories of an elephant and can't genuinely remember every time they had been to their docs. There is also the issue of how trivial a detail do you give and the significance it may have. My personal view is that the insurance company should ask for permission from us to see our medical records when we apply for a policy then once they have reviewed our records they can decide whether a policy is granted.

I know some folk may not agree with me but at least there would be a piece of mind that we are REALLY insured when we need it. Insurance companies would not be able decline a policy at a critical point, as in Nic's case because there would be no excuse for them ie. they had seen our records, worts and all.

This to me is logical however I don't think it will ever happen because GP's usually make a small charge to release medical records and that would have an impact on the insurance company's profit.

Another thought that has occurred to me as to why insurance companies don't get our medical records:-

They can collect premiums from us in the meantime. The amount of customers they have on their books that will actually claim in comparison to the those who pay their premiums but never claim for the term of the policy.

          Its all about profit..........
