    Morrisons

We said we would keep you updated on our test results for horsemeat, so here is the latest update.

We have had 68 test results on Morrisons branded products and so far we have found no contamination with horsemeat. We have many more results yet to come in and we are not complacent at this stage

Do you think the reason that they have been quiet is exactly the above from Morrisons? If Tesco, Sainsbury's LIDL et al said we have tested x products and found y products to contain horsemeat people would lose confidence in that supermarket and simply shop at Morrisons if one was available nearby.

Perhaps they should have at least simply come out and said we are testing all beef products and we will publish the results in, for example, 14 days because then at least we would know that they were doing something.

I agree, it has been found in schools meals in Lancashire.
Toffs at the top keep blaming other folk, well just maybe some of it is down to them and their cut backs as 700 jobs have apparently been lost by the very people who test our meat. Now in this crisis they can't cope , just another kick in the teeth for the poorer folk in this country. I can hardly see the clone clowns eating value bloody burgers can you?

Not particularly picking on Morrisons here, but I would be much happier if the sentence ended "..we have found no contamination." Just because they didn't find horsemeat isn't actually an indication of what they did find. Much as I have never bought pre-packed burgers/lasagne/ whatever, and have no intention of doing so, wouldn't it be more comforting if we were told that the beef contains ... shock, horror...beef and nothing else?

Anybody that eats meat and condems someone for eating a certain type of meat is being hypocritical. You have the right not to eat certain meats, but you do not have the right to condem or criticise anyone who eats something different from you. Remember everytime you eat meat some animal has died. So whether it's rover, tiddles or larry the lamb if it's your culture to eat it then it's your right.
Oh and just to add, I'm not a vegetarian. I spent my youth on farms and am quite happy to kill my own food.
I agree entirely. But to be pedantic - we are omnivores and eat anything. Well, anything edible! It is one of the contributing factors to the success of the species - we can consume a wide range of foodstuffs, and are therefore less at the mercy of seasonal variation, natural catastrophe in the food chain etc. Anyone who says they won't eat "something", whatever it is, has never faced starvation. I don't eat rabbit - I know it's just the thought of fluffy little bunnies that puts me off. If it comes to the final analysis though - me or the bunny - the bunny is stew! It's amazing what humans can and will eat if the alternative is death.

My niece doesn't eat meat for one simple reason..she doesn't like the texture but even she admits happily if it was between her and the bunny,,the bunnys history.

I only have a few foods i dont eat.

I hate the smell of pork cooking, but I will eat it. I dont like rabbit (yes I tried it and YUK) I don't like pheasant (again.. not my thing) and I cannot have mushrooms or someone rings 999 for an epipen!

Whilst living with my South African ex, we ate all manner of things, Biltong (God knows whats in that), ostrich, Billong I think its called which is a mixed dried fruit stick.. and when we went to Belgium to meet his family... Horse.

What does it taste like? Very tender steak if I'm honest. You could tell it wasn't beef, but it wasn't unpleasant.

The truth of the matter is, if you eat a horse you head won't explode, your arm won't fall off.. and if you have ever been to France, Germany or Belgium.. chances are you have eaten it.

In this country we see horses as a pet and a family friend, overseas they are also seen as a delicacy.
                        Like escargot.

My personal veiw is we sit here going Horse?? EWWWWWW the same way as they sit and think Jellied Eels?!? YUK!

It's wrong that the horsemeat has been put into food surreptiously, and they did it like that cos they knew full well it wouldn't be acceptable but Cash being King they used it cos it is cheaper. That's the immoral part..being duped as a consumer.
I certainly wouldn't have eaten ole Shergar had I known he was bopping around in my burger. Now I know this has happened I wouldn't dash to buy processed/ready meals.Same as when Bernard Matthews stuff came under the spotlight,,not a turkey twizzler has graced my freezer since then (didn't before that but used it to make my point)

To be honest I am more concerned about the waste that there is now going to be, all that perfectly edible food going into land fill, seems a shame when there is so much hunger.
