Re: Morally wrong to eat horses!!!

Is it wrong to sell BEEF when what you have is horsemeat? 100% yes.

Whether it is morally wrong to eat horses depends upon your point of view. For me no it is not morally wrong to eat horsemeat.

Just a further point, some people would say it is morally wrong to race horses and have called for a complete ban on Horse Racing, which I do not agree with but that is someone else's point of view. The issue is not about morality but about Fraud. We are told we are buying BEEF when we are not being sold BEEF. That is issue with the whole horsemeat question...

a culinary crime up there with with roast dog and kitten pie!

Further, mincing them up and commuting their meat into some kind inedible gloop, which is mixed with inedible cheese is worse than barbaric and probably a danger to health...
I'm not sure I'd rate raising them for meat as more barbaric than having them run in a race where it'll be shot if/when it breaks a leg as it's no longer a viable money maker...

As I have said on this thread the issue is not really the fact that horsemeat was in beef products but that we were mislead into believing that it was BEEF and not any other meat.

AC, you have yet to touch on the issue of Pork being found is supposedly Halal food sent to prisoners who follow the muslim faith. From a religious perspective that is horrific for those who have eaten pork in contravention of their faith.

Re: Morally wrong to eat horses!!!

just from a personal veiw, the whole pork in the halal meat (regardless of the location of those that ate it) is worse than the horsemeat thing.

I chose not to eat pork ( I dont like the smell of it cooking) but for someone of a certain faith to realise they are eating a banned food is disgraceful!

"Morally wrong to eat horses"? Oh please! We are carnivores and as such eat meat. For it to be morally wrong then we should get rid of all wild animals that eat meat, after all they don't discriminate, food is food. To them bambi is as tasty as my little pony. Anybody that eats meat and condems someone for eating a certain type of meat is being hypocritical. You have the right not to eat certain meats, but you do not have the right to condem or criticise anyone who eats something different from you. Remember everytime you eat meat some animal has died. So whether it's rover, tiddles or larry the lamb if it's your culture to eat it then it's your right.
Oh and just to add, I'm not a vegetarian. I spent my youth on farms and am quite happy to kill my own food.

As someone said before i think it is a case of horses for courses. Personally I think it is morally wrong to serve Brussels sprouts and socially irresponsible come to think of it.

However if we are talking about food contaminates that is a different and much more serious matter.

Just bought a cucumber from Tesco.

                            Turns out it's a horse's cock.

Well reading between the lines looks like we again have been duped and have been for quite a while.
Test results will come out later today and it appears it is not only processed meat that has horse in it but fresh products as well.
I would never have thought this could have happened with all the regulations we have in the food industry. I have known firms closed down because of regulations being broke that are nowhere near on this scale.
Downside of this a lot more jobs will go as the public can not trust our powers that be and the regulators YET AGAIN.

They said those selling affected products should answer key questions such as how did the crisis arise, what inquiries have supermarkets made about their suppliers and how can any similar problems be avoided in the future.
