  • Abuse of the Queen's English

An opportunity to record, for posterity, those gaffs you see now & again (the problem is more comma than we think!)

For instance, a sign on the outside of a railway station read "Brititish Rail"

(Please feel free to punctuate lol)

Apostrophe misuse. Comma misuse. Semi-colon misuse. Need I go on?

Charity, I believe you mean 'for example' as opposed to 'for instance.'

Spelling mistakes I can live with, as not everyone is naturally good in that area. However punctuation mistakes and abuse really get on my nerves. Sorry but that's just the way I am.

Is correct grammar and punctuation not taught these days?

                Two that REALLY annoy me:

                1. At the supermarket tills, "Ten Items Or Less" is gramatically incorrect, it should be, "Ten Items Or Fewer."

                2. The use of the word it's. This should only be used when it means it is. If it's does not means it is, then it's its!

and an amusing one to end with:

A sign omitting the comma; What should have been Slow, children crossing was signed as Slow children crossing.

Should Reader's Digest be Readers' Digest (or is there only one 'reader'?)

Give a thought to the oft seen supermarket sign:-

                      "RECYCLED TOILET PAPER"

                      regards
