  • Reminicing over first paypackets

In anticipation of moving---having a massive clearout

Today, its my tax files---I have every payslip & P60 from when I left school

In 1963 (first job) I worked in Insurance in Threadneedle Street for:

    £9-10sh-4d per week (£495 pa)

which paid for digs/transport/booze & also is a ticket in my files for

The Beatles & Chris Montez at Lewisham Odeon on 29/3/1963---lol---(Queen not around then)

I still have my first payslip from 1998 when I got my first job since leaving Uni. I have absolutely no idea how I spent it, however.

My first job paid £6.50 a week, less .42p tax and insurance. Out of that I gave mum £2 keep and went out with my friend on Friday and Saturday and I managed to save at least a pound a week.

My first job, I picked up £29 per week. I was working as an admin assistant in the offices for the Midlands Electricity Board. I remember the Head Cashier used to come round with a trolley on Thursdays and hand out everyone's paypackets, closely followed by the tea lady with another trolley, full of tea and cakes and biscuits and stuff, and you could even buy a packet of fags from the tea trolley as well.
        Those were the days....

My first job paid £4.10 shillings, gave my mum&dad £2, spent £1 on travel still had £1.10 shillings to buy clothes, go out and have a good time and I saved for a car as well and that was a lot of money then.

Having £1.50p in the pocket now goes absolutely no where.
