Bahrain F1 Grand Prix

Greetings All,

With the unrest in bahrain and all medical staff being told to go to hospitals which will leave no cover at the track what is the likelyhood of the gp being cancelled.

It is the season opener in 3 weeks time and one a very much look forward too do you think it could be staged at another track in such a short period of time.

Logistically almost impossible I suspect? Plus maybe contractually difficult for TV rights/coverage?

Just guessing really though......

Hope they don't have to cancel it.

they once they held it in birmingham.
so they should be able hold it in bahrain however bad the unrest gets

BBC Sport - F1 - Formula 1 teams concerned about opening race in Bahrain

Asked if the race could be held elsewhere, Booth said: "Impractical. Our sea freight, like every other team's, left for Bahrain a month ago, and a lot of the equipment in the sea freight is vital of the running of the cars. So to run it somewhere else would be very difficult."

As I thought the logistics is going to be the killer, maybe if it gets cancelled they could tag it onto the end of the season.

Dubai is the last race so temperature should not be a problem and all the equipment will already be in the middle east so logistic cost will not be so high.

Gutted about Kubica (sorry - can't spell it!) He's going to be out for a good while and what a driver!

Yes, I was reading an article today about it, and they're not sure when he recovers if he'll have the manual dexterity to operate the steering wheel as nearly everything is done from there on a modern F1 car.

The accident is on You Tube - he is SO lucky to be alive. He could easily have been speared by the armco! Very nasty.

Indeed Casper and not forgetting the vibration in those F1 cars as well as being so close to the ground and feeling every nook and cranny.

I really hope Bahrain goes ahead but also understand the safety aspect if it does not.

I'm a big F1 fan and also looking forward to the season start

My main concern is for the people of Bahrain, as I believe if there is even a sniff that the GP would be effected by this the ruling monarchy would come down even harder than they did today

I really want to see the first race, but not at the cost of peoples lives/injuries

That is my view too, like I said above it is not that difficult to tag the Bahrain GP onto the end of the season.

After all Bahrain is only some 500 miles from Dubai via road so would not cost that much in the grand scheme of GP costs.

Indeed having two GP back to back in the middle east could turn out to be quiet a spectacle.

This is providing the unrest is resolved by then of course.

BBC Sport - F1 - F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone 'hopeful' over Bahrain GP

Ecclestone told the BBC: "Our people there say 'it's quiet, no problems'.

"I'm more hopeful today. I hope we don't have to do anything. Let's hope this all blows away."

You are, I'm not just one look at the news channels will tell nothing has changed out there yet blood is still being spilt.

I am also not sure I want to see a Grand Prix in a country that fires on its own citizens as that is not a democratic way to resolve the issues the country has.

BE was on radio this morning, saying that the decision was up to the crown prince?

Other sources say that most teams just won't go.

All but a few teams boycotted the US grand prix a few years ago due to tyre-wall/turn issues, so can't see them going with this happening.
