  • The old biddy down the road

    :2w32gd1:

Yes I know they do your head in, forever moaning about this and that. Kids can't play within 5 miles of their house, you make too much noise, there can be a million reasons for the moaning. Please don't let them have the last moan stuck in the house cold and alone with no food in, put you blinkers on and knock on the door. Brace yourself though you may not get a welcoming response, due to pride more than much else imo. So they don't need any shopping or their path clearing, at least you know that all is well today with the moaning old biddy from down the road .:santa_smiley:

Thanks for starting this thread Di, its very important that we keep an eye on our elderly neighbours and that we teach our children to do the same too, remember one day we will be that old biddy down the road.

Oh and whilst we are at it, much as I love kids, while the hell do they have to let out a bloody high pitched scream ffs, nothing wrong with them laughing etc but that screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeem, blimey it goes right through you, so parents please, please teach you kids not to scream.

Screaming is part of being a child, it's like telling a little boy not to throw a ball or a little girl not to cuddle a dolly.

It means they are having fun.

Blimey it sounds like they are being murdered lol, actually I've been watching the kids over the road they have made a massive snowman and playing snow angels, they are hilarious and really lovely kids, oh how I'd love to go play.

Police are urging elderly people to take extra care in the cold weather after two pensioners were found dead in their gardens in separate incidents in Cumbria.
In a third fatal incident, a 57-year-old man was killed after he got out of his Land Rover to help a stranded motorist and was hit by another vehicle.
The man, who has not been named, had stopped on the A6108 on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales to help recover a Vauxhall Corsa from a ditch at Bellerby Bank, between Richmond and Leyburn, at 7pm yesterday.
In Cumbria, a neighbour found Lillian Jenkinson, 80, outside her home in Workington on Wednesday morning. Police believe she may have fallen before she died, possibly on Tuesday night.
On Tuesday, William Wilson, 84, was found dead in his garden in Kirkby Stephen. The ambulance service said his death was cardiac-related.
Neighbours said he wasknown as Willy. He was described as a very nice, quiet man who didn't go out much. "He liked to keep himself to himself, but he was friendly," said a resident.
The coroner will look at whether the weather contributed to either death.
A Met Office spokesman said temperatures in Shap and Brough were –8.2C on Monday night.
Lillian's neighbour June Mattinson and her daughter Ann called at her house after another friend failed to get an answer when she telephoned.
Mary Beck, 80, who lives opposite, became concerned when the phone was unanswered.
Mattinson, who had known her for 40 years, described her friend as frail and said she walked using a stick. For many years, she has checked on her friend twice a day.
"She was a really good neighbour and the kids on the street always used to call her Aunty Lily. It is a terrible shock. She was such a nice person and if you wanted anything she would do it for you.
"She used to make alterations to clothing, and you often saw people walking from her house with huge bags of clothes." She said Lillian was also keen on knitting and sewing.
Mary Beck, who lives opposite, said Lillian had only celebrated her 80th birthday a few weeks ago. "It's such a sad thing to happen and she will be a bad miss on the street," she said.
Cumbria police are urging people to take extreme care when heading out on foot after dark.
Assistant chief constable Jerry Graham said: "The severe winter weather which has gripped the county has made many outdoor areas hazardous so we are reminding everyone to take extra care, particularly in the hours of darkness when visibility is poor.
"Two elderly people have tragically died in their gardens in the last week and we know they were closely supported by family and neighbours. However, not everyone has that support."
Michelle Mitchell, charity director at Age UK, said they were greatly saddened to hear of the two deaths.
"Tragic incidents like this are a reminder of how important it is to take extra care in these icy and cold conditions. If older people fall they are more susceptible to injury and can often struggle to get back on their feet."In a separate incident, scores of people walked past a pensioner who had collapsed in a street in Salisbury without helping him. Brian Courtney, 77, lay unconscious for almost five hours during which time his body temperature fell to just 26C.
