  • A tip a day for Xmas

    :26:

Having a real tree? well here is how to keep it fresh

Select the freshest tree possible. Ideally, buy one that is cut the day you bring it home.

    2. Cut 1 inch off the base, place the tree in a bucket of water, and stand it in a cool, shady place if you don't plan to set it up right away.

    3. Cut 1/2 inch to 1 inch off the base of the trunk when you bring it inside to set up.

    4. Place in a tree stand that holds at least 1 gallon of water. Add plain water.

    5. Water the tree every day.

    6. Avoid allowing the water level to drop below the cut end of the trunk. If it does, a seal will form and prevent any more water from being absorbed by the tree. You'll need to make another cut in the trunk if this occurs.

    7. Keep the tree away from the fireplace, vents and other sources of heat.

    8. Spray tree with an antitranspirant, which is a clear film that slows water loss from the needles. Spray it on before trimming the tree.

Miniature light sets produce less heat than the standard-size lights, so the tree will dry out less quickly if you use them.

Use hot water in your stand.

This may sound crazy, but if your tree isn't drawing water, use hot water. It will melt the seal at the end of the trunk.

    Shopping at home :fireside:

If you are shopping from home, then it might interest you that in the UK you have additional rights over shopping in person.

The main right that you have is what is known as a cooling off period.

This is a period in which you can change your mind - this is around 7 days in length. You will notice many online retailers will refer to this and remind you of your right, for instance Amazon.

You also have the right to cancel your order if it is not delivered within a 30 day period - unless another time was explicitly agreed.

Bought yer pressies and can't get the price tag off ! (I know some like to leave em on, just to show how much they care LOL)

Removing stickers from gifts can be pretty tricky work.

Here are two simple methods that you can use to remove the stickers.

The first way to get rid of price labels from items that you buy as gifts or presents is to dip a sponge in warm water and then rub over the label. This should lead to some water getting behind the label and removing the stick and it will peel off.

The other option is to carefully use a hair dryer. If you blast the sticker quickly then it can stop the stick being as effective and help it come off - obviously be careful not to overheat item!

        Getting stressed yet?

Christmas is above all a time to show your love and care for your family and get together and spend quality time together. If you are religious of course it is also a particularly important time of year.

Sadly these days it is very commercialised and you may be forgiven for thinking it is for who can buy the most thoughtful present to give to their loved ones, and the pressures can mount up and cause stresses and strains.

If you find the period stressful, then here is a great tip to relieve that stress.

Simply laugh out really loud - as loud as you can - a big, old Santa HO HO HO! The reason is that this will help to relax you and release chemicals into the blood stream that make you feel better and relaxed - so it really is a good idea to laugh these things off!

How to impress at the party :santa_wink:

When it comes to the Christmas party then you don't want to do things by half!

So why not go all out to create a dramatic impression with your outfit this Christmas.

For ladies why not go for a dress with a dramatic draped sleeve across one shoulder and down low beneath the other shoulder for something that will turn heads.

Keep it classy by going for a charcoal or darker coloured dress - or silver if you want something very festive - and then enjoy the attention that you will no doubt receive as an effect of your lovely Christmas outfit.

Re: A tip a day for Xmas

I went for a walk yesterday armed with secateurs, sturdy large bag, gloves, wellies, 1 dog and weirdly 1 brave cat......

I trimmed bits off conifers, holly, Christmas Box (which grows well in local wild woods), ivy with berries, red dogwood stems (yellow/white will do).

I tried to cut pieces about 2' long, dogwood was more like 3-4'.

Got home, washed dog, sat on carpet, tipped out bag, gently carried all the spider/insect passengers outside and bound all the twigs together using cheap green garden string, using the longer dogwood stems as a 'backbone'. They held together really neatly. Have the hoover on hand, those holly berries ping everywhere!

If you kind of inter lap the branches you can make an 8' + evergreen garland. Looks absolutely beautiful with all the holly berries. I've tied some small fir cones on mine and hung it on a beam. Far prettier and more natural than tinsel...although we do have that too!
"Although scalar fields are Lorentz scalars, they may transform nontrivially under other symmetries, such as flavour or isospin. For example, the pion is invariant under the restricted Lorentz group, but is an isospin triplet (meaning it transforms like a three component vector under the SU(2) isospin symmetry). Furthermore, it picks up a negative phase under parity inversion, so it transforms nontrivially under the full Lorentz group; such particles are called pseudoscalar rather than scalar. Most mesons are pseudoscalar particles." (finally explained to a captivated Celestine by Professor Brian Cox on Wednesday 27th June 2012 )

Make your own mince pies and save yourself from being lynched by the family (I usually make between 7-9 dozen!)

Don't make your own mince pies, buy them from the supermarket, get lynched by the family and then you can save all your money coz you won't have to buy any presents then................. HO HO HO!! :27:

I'd like to add something if I may......

For all of you who are feeling a little low this Christmas, wondering if things will get better soon, battling with faith, battling with creditors etc ...... please don't worry have faith, have fun and above all put your family first (and friends of course) as they are the only ones that appreciate everything that you do.
But above all, please don't forget the one person who everyone relies on......................Father Christmas!!!

He is around doing his own thing all year round yet once a year he puts a smile on billions of peoples faces across the globe.
If your a non believer (how dare you ...lol) then please feel free to see him in action HERE. You will believe!! belief is one fundamental escape from this mad mad world. Set up your PC with the above link to Santa and everyday from now until Christmas eve, track Father Christmas vis satellite with your loved ones.
Your children will again believe and with your children's joy and belief, comes happiness.

I would just like to wish everyone on LegalBeagles a very Happy Christmas and an even happier New Year.

Give love and joy to every person you see at this time of year, especially those who may not have any family around or even have a home. Take something to them, make them feel happy again and give them belief.

I also send my best Christmas wishes to all those brave men and woman serving in theatre in Afghanistan (which includes my future step son Lance fighting on the front line this Christmas) and all those posted around the globe.

You are all doing an amazing job, love you all.

Make a nice hot salad its one of our favourites.

Pub some spicy jacket wedges in the oven.
Slice up bacon, sausage and chicken fillets in bite size pieces, fry them in a pan in some olive oil and add some garlic if you wish.
When all is cooked put on top of a bed of rocket leaves, chopped cucumber and red onion and sliced hard boiled egg.
Put some crumbled Danish blue cheese over the top and serve with nice crusty bread.

                              Enjoy !
