Rumours circulating in parliament this morning suggested that the British Government has contacted the board of Barclays Bank demanding an immediate explanation on recent bonus payments. It follows revelations that Barclays had paid out hundreds of millions of pounds in secret bonuses to bosses.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith allegedly made the call, insisting she needed to know 'every detail' on how it was possible to hide largely unjustified payments from the media and the public.
Many other MPs were alleged to have expressed an interest in the information, suggesting it was "in the public good" that the government learnt the secret methods behind the hidden payments.
When asked if the information would be made public one MP said: "What information? Do you think it will snow tomorrow?"
