On Monday I sent a letter to the CEO of Kent County council. In the letter I questioned the prudence of depositing £50 million of ratepayers money in an Icelandic bank, bearing in mind that there was a real doubt as to their liquidity last August, and that there was a downgrading of the banks rating from AAA to BBB in March of this year.
My Flabber was glasted, in that I received an acknowledgement within the hour by the CEO's PA. Normally government departments either don't even reply, or take weeks, hoping that you'll go away.
Today, shock horror, I received a reply from the Head of Finance. Is panic setting in, in the KCC?
It could be in part that I did say that I would drag it out of them anyway using the FOI act, if they didn't reply within seven days, and I would release it to the press.
Also he was probably upset that I was also going to involve the Standards Ombudsman as well, to take action to see if I could have them jailed!
They had £50 million and I still can't get my bin emptied weekly.
I'm going to have fun with them. Nick is on a mission. FOI and Standards board here I come.
