  • Do I need FCA approval?

    Good morning

I hope you are all well.

I am emailing to find out if my business idea would require FCA approval or not. I am looking to setup as an introducer, providing referrals to insurance brokers across personal and commercial lines. I would like to setup a website to attract new referrals. I would obtain basic contact information and the type of insurance the customer requires along with the renewal date. Then depending on the referral type I would provide the customer's contact details to a panel of brokers that would pay me a commission for each individual success referral. I am aware that I do not require FCA sign off for acting solely as an introducer but I am not sure if that's still the case If I am running a website advertising my services? I could well be over thinking the matter but some guidance would be appreciated.

    Many thanks

    Stuart

You do not need to be registered by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) as you do not undertake any regulated activities.

You do however, need to be data protection registered.
