    The OFT is launching a nationwide 'Scamnesty' campaign asking the public to help in the fight against scams, which cost the UK an estimated £3.5 billion a year.

    The Scamnesty runs until 27 February 2008.
    This is a great idea but I think they should run it for longer.

    Only one local authority in Wales is included in their list of those taking part (Blaenau Gwent) so any other Welshies have to contact Consumer Direct by ringing them or via their website.

      I think they are a bit confused in their use of the concept of the word "amnesty" - the people being asked to hand in the evidence of these scams aren't the guilty parties. It's rather different to the usual sort of amnesty which involves handing in illegal guns, knives, or whatever without fear of prosecution.

      But, having said all that, the awareness campaign is a good thing.
