Further to its statement on 10 May regarding the withdrawal of criminal proceedings against four current and former British Airways executives for price-fixing, the OFT has made the following statement.

So what is REALLY going on? This sort of thing undermines the credibility of the OFT to the
extent that they cannot be considered "fit for purpose" in relation to any sort of Corporate
or Consumer wrongdoing. They have no leverage!

It's really their external counsel that were to blame here. Although of the 650 odd personnel on the OFTs staff, 90 odd are lawyers, they have to rely on external legal counsel to guide their cases.
