  • Vanquis credit card DPA breech?

I received a mailshot from Vanquis for a credit card and duly applied. It was what they called a 'Special Invitation' but that's another story.

It's been 2 weeks now and haven't heard a sausage.

Yesterday I received what I can only describe of a barrage of calls on my mobile from no less than 5 different loan companies and today one got through on my work number.

I haven't been advised if my credit card application has been declined but I answered one of these calls today from Total Loans (I think) and they seem to be fully aware of my card application and appear to know before I have been informed officially that it has been declined.

Other companies who have tried to contact me are Strawberry Loans, Aspire Money etc etc...

Is this considered a breach of data protection. I did tick all the boxes on the application to request my details are not forwaded.

It's just got me a bit miffed like I've not been invited to the party sort of thing :/

Anyway, any advice or opinions would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Vanquis are part of Provident. I suspect somewhere in that application is some tiny small print that allows them to distribute your data to third parties, or one of the tick boxex may have been the other way round to usual - tick here if you do want to receive rather than do not want to receive. It is getting standard industry practice. Usually the third party is a broker, so you end up getting calls from lots of different companies.

Mrs-K got the same thing from Vanquis a while back. We've both been clear of our IVA's for a while, now, so I decided to 'go for it.' Applied online.

Never heard a dickie bird from them, though. Although dear Mrs-K has had another mailshot from Vanquis, and an email from them as well. Both inviting her to apply...

I've a good mind to use their pre-paid reply envelope to send them a brick.
